The corner of what's now Route 2 and Old Loudon Road has carried a hotel and a settlement since Jonas Yearsley arrived in 1785, cycling through the names Yearsley's, Van Vranken's, and Town House Corners before hotelier William G. Latham's name stuck for good -- his family ran the hotel there until 1933. That long, continuous use left a wider range of roof ages clustered around the original corner than you'd find in a single-era subdivision.
