Walk the roof planes, edges, and flashing that can be safely reached, then check the attic and interior for supporting evidence.
2. Define conditions
Get specific about material, how many layers are on the deck, access and staging challenges, and pitch.
3. Compare written scopes
Line up tear-off, deck allowances, underlayment, ice-barrier coverage, flashing, disposal, permits, and warranty terms side by side.
4. Protect and verify
Weather protection during the work, daily cleanup, a nail and debris sweep of the yard, and closeout paperwork should all be part of the plan.
